New York City may soon require residents to separate their food scraps and similar items under a mandatory composting program, city officials recently said. But mandatory composting aside, what one rule would New Yorkers like to see the city enforce that it doesn’t already?

COMMENTARY | New York City has attempted to legislate a lot of things under Mayor Bloomberg — things that often affect residents frequently in small ways. Some plans start out voluntary but mandatory programs often end up as the result. On occasions, attempts (such as the large soda ban) failed but generally they move forward. So, now that the mayor’s term of office is coming to an end, what could be made mandatory to really help us?
